Positive Reviews

Quiet neighborhood close to downtown

Being a roughly ten minute walk from central Victoria—including popular sites like Beacon Hill Park and the Imax Theater at the Royal BC Museum—you'll be surprised with how peaceful the neighborhood is. After a hard day of hitting the landmarks, you can bask in the hotel's serenity.

Delicious and hearty cuisine

The Art Deco Café and Restaurant at the hotel offers a blend of modern and classic favorites, including homemade soups, high quality meats and seafood, and serves a full breakfast, light lunch, and a three course dinner. Guests of the hotel can take advantage of discounted rates as well.

A heritage hotel

Dating from the Edwardian period, the James Bay Inn combines a historic location with rustic décor and a comfortable ambiance. You'll appreciate the hint of history in the air when you step into the hotel. And, in addition to its historic appeal, hotel offers reasonable rates despite its central location.

Negative Reviews

Hotel without an elevator

If you or your significant other has trouble getting up or downs stairs, you should be aware that the hotel doesn't have an elevator. To optimize your mobility, book a room on the lower floor, and let the staff know if you need any additional assistance beforehand.

Thin walls let in the clatter

Although the hotel doesn't serve a raucous crowd, between the pub and the general hotel activity, some travelers have noted that the rooms aren't heavily soundproofed. As a result, a light sleeper may be disturbed during high traffic parts of the morning or night and should bring ear plugs just in case.

Hot during the summer

Most of the year, not having a working air conditioner isn't that big of a deal in British Columbia. Yet, during the peak of summer, when the sun beats down and the coastal air turns muggy, you'll miss the AC. Although not always possible, if you have the option, you may wish to book during more temperate months.
