Set in a quite rural spot, but still close to the amenities of La Malbaie, Auberge Auberge la Châtelaine offers very charming accommodation in a lovely property dating from the late 1800’s. The individually decorated and furnished rooms have a cosy and “cottagey” feel to them, and offer guests a lovely oasis for the duration of their stay. The rooms feature private bathrooms and even free Wi-Fi if you really have to stay connected to the world beyond. In winter, the cosy guest lounge, with two stone fireplaces with roaring fires going, is the social centre of the auberge. Summer guests may prefer to take a stroll around the lovely gardens and take in the sweeping views of the Saint Lawrence. In summer, breakfast is served on the gorgeous veranda. Lunch, consisting of excellent French Canadian dishes, is also available. The immediate area around Auberge la Châtelaine turns into a winter wonderland when the first snow falls and snowmobile tours, dog sledding and much more can be arranged.

It was the auberge’s hosts, Arnaud and Odile, who made the biggest impression on guests during their stay. It was rare to find a review that did not mention that they were the perfect hosts who seemed to be merely carrying out their duties, but a calling, and provided guests with the best hospitality they could imagine receiving.
Guests were very impressed with the breakfast offered every morning. Those travelling in the summer months loved sitting out on the veranda while enjoying it. But whatever the season of travel, all thoroughly enjoyed it, saying it was varied and contained a delightful blend of truly unique dishes and tastes.
Guests were very impressed with the sweeping views down to the Saint Lawrence River from the property. The auberge is clearly in a commanding position and guests enjoyed being able to take it all in.
A number of guests mentioned that, being an old house, noise tends to travel through walls, ceilings and floors almost at will. Creaky floorboards were said to be a particular problem, so those who believe in ghosts will be in for a very interesting night.
