It’s worth requesting a room with a view

The view across the gardens towards Edinburgh Castle is absolutely fantastic You can breathe this vista in while you dine in the restaurant, or from your own window if you are fortunate enough to be given a room facing in the right direction.

The location is great It simply cannot be faulted

Mercure Edinburgh City - Princes Street is ideally situated in that you can get a real feel for the city on foot It is very central to the main tourist attractions, especially the castle and Princes Street Gardens The train station is just minutes away, meaning you can easily walk to and from the hotel on arrival and departure.

The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful

You’ll certainly receive a warm Scottish welcome on arrival and will be treated in a friendly manner for the duration of your stay.

While charming, Mercure Edinburgh City - Princes Street feels undeniably old and tired It could certainly do with some refurbishment of its décor and furniture to bring it more up to date.

You won’t feel the pressure – in the shower

The bathrooms could seriously do with an update too Not least the showers, which are not the best in terms of water pressure If you are tall, you’ll need to duck to fit your head under!

You might be left feeling hot, hot, hot

The guestrooms can get a little hot and stuffy Furthermore, the standard double rooms are a little on the small side, so you might want to consider an upgrade.
