“Spring Break Cancun” – a phrase shouted by college students and spring breakers across the world. This city in Mexico has been living up to its reputation as being one of the best hot spots for spring breakers. However, everyone should get in on the action. Visit and walk among cultural ruins or experience aquariums like you never have before. Relax and sunbathe on one of Cancun’s many beaches, and of course, dance the night away in one of the city’s premiere clubs. You should also live like the locals and explore Downtown Cancun.
Ultimately, your Cancun experience will be largely based on where you stay. The Hotel Zone is where most of the beaches and resorts are, and is a huge tourist destination. There are many luxurious hotel options in the area, and all of them offer great amenities. One example is, JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa. This luxurious hotel is on the pricey side, but it’s totally worth it. Not only does it include a spa and sauna, but it’s directly near the beach. There are several pools and a few dining options on site. Sports enthusiast can partake in the water sports available at the resort, and use the gym or tennis court. Shopping and other entertainment options are also located near the hotel. Another popular, and luxurious, option is, the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach Resort & Spa. This resort is known to be a five-star award winning option for tourists. Each hotel room offers a view of the sea, and those staying here have easy access to the beach. The resort has its own spa and sauna. They also boast diverse dining options, which range from French-Mediterranean cuisine, to Mexican food. This is a great option for the whole family, because this hotel offers popular ‘Kids Club’ activities and a pool.
If you’re not trying to break your pockets and want to enjoy Cancun on a budget, there are some great deals out there. You don’t have to go too far either, and can still enjoy the heart of the Hotel Zone. The Beachscape Kin Ha Villas & Suites is one such option. The hotel features an outdoor pool, children’s pool, a gym, its own convenience store and salon with massage services. There’s a bar and grill on site, and there are a ton of restaurants and bars within walking distance. If golfing is your thing, you’re three-minutes away from Pok-ta-Pok Golf course in Northern Cancun. If hotels aren’t your thing or you’re looking for a home-away-from-home experience, the then consider staying in a serviced apartment. A nice affordable option, that offers nice deals is, Cancun Plaza. Cancun Plaza gives you the feel of staying in an apartment, but offers some of the amenities of a hotel. They have their own private beach, as well as two outdoor swimming pools. They also have their own restaurant. A few different bar options are offered, which includes a beach bar and a poolside bar. Free self-parking is onsite and this serviced apartment is near Wet n’ Wild Waterpark and other activities.
After settling in your hotel or serviced apartment of choice, one of the first things you should do in Cancun is check out the ruins. Chichén Itzá is a popular tourist attraction in Cancun, and for good reason. Cultural fanatics, and those who can just appreciate cool history, will want to view this large Mayan archaeological site. This particular Mayan ruin has been named a World Heritage Site, and although it’s about two-hours away from the main Cancun area, it’s totally worth seeing. Everybody and their great-aunt will be there, checking out this monumental site, so to avoid the crowds you should visit early in the morning. Another great site to check out is the El Rey Ruins. Although these ruins aren’t as grand as Chichén Itzá, the El Rey Ruins have proximity on their side since they’re located in the heart of the Hotel Zone. You can easily walk right to them and view the ruins in a short period of time.
Beaches, beaches, and more beaches – Cancun has its fair share. Just walk outside your hotel and you’ll run smack into one. The Hotel Zone is filled with them. However if you’re looking for a change of pace, or you’re tired of the beaches in the Hotel Zone, then Playa Tortugas and Playa Delfines are definitely worth checking out. Playa Tortugas is considered a local beach spot. It’s well known for its relaxed atmosphere, clean sand and calm waters. There are also several open-air restaurants along the beach, which make it great for evening/night dining. Tourists have said that Playa Delfines is a “must-walk” beach. Playa Delfines normally lacks the heavy crowds that can be found on other beaches. This beach does have rough waters, so swimmers need to be careful.
For family fun, make sure you visit the Interactive Aquarium. Not far from the Hotel Zone, this is a great opportunity to view marine life. The Interactive Aquarium is located in the La Isla Shopping Village, so get some shopping done while you’re in the area. Speaking of marine life, why not go home and brag to your friends and family that you swam with dolphins. The Delphinus Dreams Cancun will allow you to do just that. There are five different programs that allow you to interact with the dolphins and a certified trainer is by your side for each of them. So even if swimming with the dolphins is not your thing, they may have something else there for you.
Of course your trip to Cancun is not complete unless you party, because let’s face it; you’re most likely coming to Cancun to get your party on. The city has its own ‘Party Zone,’ where you will find a vast array of night clubs for your choosing. If you really want to go crazy for the night, you can club hop and try them all. Coco Bongo is Cancun’s most popular night club. However, don’t come here expecting your traditional dance club. This club is a performance hub. During the night the acts you’ll see can range from acrobatics to lip-synch impersonators. The bartenders will even take the stage with singing and dancing. If the desire to dance comes over you, there is no dance floor here. So either follow the crowd and dance where you’re standing, or you can always leave and take your dance moves elsewhere; to places like The City and Mandala. The City claims to be the largest nightclub in Latin America. Since it can hold over 5,000 people, perhaps they deserve those bragging rights. The club is always packed to the max during spring break and summer months. Celebrity performances are always held here and they play all genres of music. Mandala is also a favorite, if you’re feeling really fancy. This club feels like a luxurious VIP room, only it’s the entire club and not just one room. Although more upscale, it’s been extremely popular since it opened.
